What is a doula?

Many people ask what a doula is and wonder how they can help. So what do I offer as a postnatal doula?

  • Practical help around your home. I can do light housework, hang the washing, loading the dishwasher - all those little tasks that often feel like they are mounting up and taking up head space.

  • Running some errands, picking up supplies and groceries.

  • Accompanying you on your first trips into the world, it can feel overwhelming to head out in sole charge of a tiny human but it will slowly begin to feel normal….I promise.

  • I love cooking so delight in providing you and your family with delicious and nutritious meals, snacks and treats to keep your energy up.

  • I will happily entertain your other children, giving you precious time to rest or focus on your newborn, I have spent several years as a primary school teaching assistant and running a busy toddler group not to mention my own three lovelies so I am familiar and comfortable with children of all ages.

  • I can offer you a listening ear and a non-judgemental space on your journey to becoming a mother and above all I can support you to be kind and compassionate to yourself as you adapt to the changes a new baby can bring.

  • As your doula I can act as a bridge or short cut to other sources of information and support, in the haze of sleep deprivation and vulnerability it can often seem hard to find them but they are there and whether it’s a baby massage class or a breast feeding drop in, I will be there for you as you explore your options and find your way.

As your postnatal doula, my support is always warm, caring and compassionate. I can offer flexible support and help whatever that might look like for you. It is about you adjusting to the crazy ride that is motherhood and I will be there with you through all those ups and downs for as long as I am needed.

How Can I Help You?

I can support you whilst you,

  • Rest and recover from your birth.

  • Bond with your new arrival, spend time being together and getting to know one another.

  • Explore your feelings and choices around parenting and matrescence.

  • Establish feeding and develop an understanding of your baby’s cues.

  • Gently introduce a new sibling and spend time connecting with your other children.

sling consultant surrey

Carrying stories sling consultancy

I trained as a sling consultant with Slingababy in 2016.

I offer 1:1 sling consultations and have volunteered with Dorking NCT sling library since 2015.

I offer a 1:1 Bump to Baby Antenatal Session During these 2 hour sessions we’ll cover normal newborn development and behaviours, an overview of different slings and carriers and what to expect from the postnatal period. You’ll leave with an understanding of how to carry your baby safely and comfortably and a tool kit of ideas and resources to support you through the early days of life as a new parent.

We’ll then book in a 30 minute follow up session once your own baby has arrived so you can build on some of your learning and get 1:1 support with your own baby and sling.

This workshop is £75 per couple including a comprehensive handout.
